Older adults face unique mental health challenges — from age-related mood disorders, grief and loss, cognitive changes, chronic health conditions, to life transitions like retirement or changing social support. Our Geriatric Psychiatry service provides sensitive, age-appropriate care that honors the dignity, history, and unique needs of older clients.
We provide:
- Psychiatric evaluation with attention to age-related factors, medical comorbidities, and psychosocial context.
- Screening and treatment for depression, anxiety, grief, bereavement, late-life mood disorders, insomnia or sleep disturbances, memory concerns, and other mental health issues common in older age.
- Medication management, carefully balancing benefits and risks with respect to physical health and other medications.
- Psychotherapy adapted to older adults — supportive counseling, grief and loss therapy, life-review therapy, coping with life transitions, and enhancing quality of life.
- Support for family/caregivers: guidance, psychoeducation, and helping establish supportive environments for older adults.
- Coordination with other healthcare providers (primary care, geriatric medicine) when needed — for holistic, integrated care.
Our aim is to help older adults maintain emotional well-being, quality of life, dignity, and meaningful connection, even in challenging life circumstances.
