LPC
Hi there, I’m Trudy!
I am happy that you decided to stop and check out what help I might be able to offer you. I was a teacher for 15 years and then went through a life transition, which was very difficult to get through. It was the “Boot Camp of Life” for me. I had anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and PTSD, and tried all the wrong things to help myself.
I could not find the help I needed, so I basically had to figure out how to “heal myself”. I am thankful for what I went through because I learned what it is like to have mental illness and what it takes to get back to being mentally healthy. I use CBT and Trauma-Focused Therapy because they provide the tools needed to get well.
The clients I work best with are those who are trying to overcome the issues I faced–depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and PTSD. I have been extremely successful at treating clients with PTSD with the PTSD Treatment Process I have developed. I have also been able to teach clients how to stop panic attacks. Depression and anxiety decrease.
I want to create an environment that makes a client feel safe to share and to feel heard. I want clients to know that I am fully present in the therapy session, by listening and giving input when the time is appropriate. Clients have told me that I am easy to talk to. Clients usually see improvement after each session, and that is my goal.
I wanted to become a therapist because I realized how devastating it was to need and want help and not be able to find it. After I recovered, I wanted to become a therapist, so I could help others who are going through what I went through because I understood it from the inside out.
I tell clients that after we decide what problems they want to address, we set the goal so we both know where we are going, how we will get there, and we can measure the progress along the way. If clients know their goal, they are able to get there much more successfully.
The client should expect to share their story with me so I can understand what their issues are and what problems they want to address first. At the end of the first session, I will share with the client what I have understood their problems to be and we will set a goal for the next session. I want clients to leave each session feeling better.
